La Mia Storia

Ciao! I’m Sal — a World Language teacher, history enthusiast and someone who believes that food is one of the most powerful gateways to culture.  I didn’t grow up with a family that spoke Italian or passed on cooking traditions.  When I had my own son I decided to make it my mission to resurrect the traditions that my ancestors left behind when they came to America.

For me, Italian isn’t just a language you study — it’s something you taste, hear, celebrate, and share.

This website is where all of those pieces come together: my love of teaching, my ancestral roots, my fascination with history and genealogy, and my absolute joy in recreating the dishes that have rich cultural significance.

Here you’ll find:

  • Authentic Italian recipes rooted in history and tradition

  • Language insights, dialect explorations, and cultural explanations that make Italy feel alive

  • Feast-day histories, regional stories, and food anthropology presented in an accessible way

  • Cooking demonstrations designed to inspire food lovers

  • A bridge between past and present, connecting heritage to the modern kitchen

As a teacher, I’ve spent years showing my students that culture is something you experience — not just memorize.  I’m excited to share that same philosophy with a wider community. Whether you’re here to learn a recipe, explore traditions, or simply enjoy the beauty of Italian culture, I want this space to feel welcoming, authentic, and full of discovery.

Food connects us to our families, to our history, and to each other.

I hope the stories and recipes you find here bring you the same joy, curiosity, and sense of belonging that they’ve brought me.

Benvenuti — I’m honored you’re here.

– Sal
